Skilled Workers:

A skilled worker is an employee with a unique set of skills, training, expertise and generally obtained through skills in their job. A skilled worker may have attended a college, university or technical school, based on their skills and ability to contribute to Canada’s economy.

Skilled workers are majorly divided into 4 TEER (Training, Education, Experience and Responsibilities) categories,..

TEER 0: These are Managerial jobs, such as Advertising, marketing and public relations managers & Financial managers

TEER 1: These are Professional jobs with a minimum degree from the university, such as Financial advisors & Software engineers

TEER 2. These are Technical jobs which usually require a college diploma or training as an apprentice of 2 years or more, such as Computer network and web technicians & Medical laboratory technologists

TEER 3: These are Technical jobs which usually require a college diploma or training as an apprentice of less than 2 years, such as Bakers, Dental assistants and dental laboratory assistants

Based on the TEER categories, the Occupations codes are listed in demand of the provinces and the programs which lead a professional worker to get a visa under one of the below program.

Skilled professional through different programs can be eligible to get Canada Permanent Residency visa.

  • FSWP – Federal Skilled Worker Program
  • FSTP – Federal Skilled Trades Program
  • QSWP – Quebec Skilled Worker Program

Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSW)

Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) is Canada’s primary economic immigration pathway by providing skilled workers and their families a great opportunity to become permanent residents in Canada. Professionals from all countries across the globe with required skills and qualifications which are at high demand in Canada and who can fulfil the needs of Canadian Labour needs can apply for a Permanent Resident visa under Federal Skilled worker program and settle permanently in Canada.

Minimum Eligibility Criteria:

Foreign nationals can start the process under Federal Skilled Worker Program are determining whether or not they meet the minimum requirements of the program of six selection factor points, score 67 points or higher, you may qualify for the Federal Skilled Worker Program out of 100 points. The minimum requirements are:

  • Age between 18-46 Yrs
  • Foreign Credential with minimum Bachelor’s Degree, or Canadian educational credential,
  • Min 1 year of continuous full-time or equivalent paid work experience for a Masters holder and Min 2 years of experience for a Bachelor holder required in recent 10 years full-time paid work (at least 30 hours per week, or an equal amount of part-time [15 hours per week for 24 months]) at TEER category 0,1,2,3 depending on various factors such as age and language skills.
  • Ability to listen, read, write & speak English language with a validated language ability equivalent to Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) in English or French.
  • Adaptability points can be earned either by primary applicant or accompanying common-law partner for past studies/past experience in Canada or common-law partner language abilities or Relatives in Canada.
  • Having an Arranged employment offer from Canada

There are 500 Occupations, considered under National Occupational Classification (NOC) system to classify job Occupations such as TEER 0,1,2,3 eligible towards Federal skilled worker program through Express Entry system.

Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)

The Federal Skilled Trades Class (FSTC) is a Canadian permanent residence pathway for foreign nationals with experience in a skilled trade. Foreign nationals looking to immigrate to Canada under the Federal Skilled Trades Program must first make an expression of interest through the federal Express Entry selection system. The FSTC allows individuals with a valid job offer or a certificate of qualification to obtain permanent residence in any Canadian province or territory other than Quebec.

Eligibility based on selection factors such as,

  • Live outside Canada,
  • Have at least 2 years of full-time work experience in skilled trade occupation within the 5 years before you apply,
  • Meet the job needs for that skilled trade, as set out in the National Occupational Classification(NOC),
  • cover an proffer of full-time service for a entire period of at least 1 year or a permit of requirement in that skilled trade issued by a Canadian provincial, territorial or federal authority.

  • Trade Occupations

Occupations under Trades Class:

  • Major Group 72, technical trades & transportation officers & controllers.
  • Major Group 73, general trades
  • Major Group 82, supervisors in natural resources, agriculture and related production
  • Major Group 83, occupations in natural resources and related production
  • Major Group 92, processing, manufacturing and utilities supervisors, and utilities operators and controllers
  • Major Group 93, central control and process operators and aircraft assembly assemblers and inspectors, excluding Sub-Major Group 932, aircraft assemblers and aircraft assembly inspectors
  • Minor Group 6320, cooks, butchers and bakers.

Quebec Skilled Worker Program (QSWP)

Quebec has its own terms of agreement on immigration with the Government of Canada. The province has its own rules for choosing immigrants who will acculturate well to live in.

The Quebec Skilled Worker program (QSWP) is a selection system designed to identify immigration candidates who are most likely to become economically established in the province. Quebec is Canada’s only francophone province. The Quebec Skilled Worker program has specific qualifying criteria based on Quebec’s cultural uniqueness.

  • To receive their Immigration Quebec Selection Certificate (CSQ), the applicant must apply to Immigration Quebec.
  • Applicants then apply for a permanent resident visa from the federal government.
  • An applicant may include his wife and dependent kids, while extra points are given to accompanying members of the family.

In order to qualify for a CSQ, you must score enough points under the Quebec Immigration selection factors described below.

  • A single (unmarried) applicant must score at least 50 points
  • Applicant with a spouse or common-law partner must score at least 59 points

New system introduced to Quebec application process an Expression of Interest (EOI) introduced in 2018 to streamline the application processing of QSWP applicants. Under this new EOI system, aspirant’s interested in migrating to the province through the Quebec Skilled Worker Program, first need to create an Expression of Interest profile using the province’s Arrima portal; which is valid for an year. Aspirants invited to apply for immigration to Quebec through the QSW Program need to use the secure Mon projet Québec portal in order to submit an application. Mon Projet Quebec allows to complete CSQ application and application fee payment through online, aspirants can update, make changes to the application and check there application status.
